We are delighted to have been shortlisted for a Blueprint Award!

Blueprint Awards Shortlist 2014

We are alongside some big and established practice names, so are pretty thrilled considering we are not an architectural practice.

Although we are both architects, we practice separately and this project was our first project working together, outside of busy day jobs…

Fingers crossed!

We had about 150 visitors for guided tours around the building site over the weekend – all in two afternoons.  It was great to have so many people interested in the process and the buildings.

Open house is a wonderful free event, relying on the support of the volunteers and donations from the public.  We hope that we can be part of it next year, when the buildings will be finished and we will be living (and working) in the house!

Thank you to John and his team for making the site look as presentable as possible, and to all of our friends, neighbours and family who have supported us with the project so far.

As most of the timber for the roofs has been installed, the carpenters have started to set out and construct the internal divisions.

The buildings are not yet weather tight, and the windows are yet to arrive, but the internal spaces are coming together.

It is such an exciting time to see the two dimensional plans being formed into spaces that we will eventually inhabit.

There is still a little bit of brickwork to be carried out, to include the large angled brick beam over the courtyard to our house.

This include tapered head windows either side of tapered head piers.

This means that the bricks have to be cut very precisely!

This week has been the first ever National Self Build Week.

As part of the organised events, Robert and I gave a lecture about our self build project at Grand Designs Live.  The purpose of the lecture was to aid those hoping to embark in their own self build and the pitfalls to be prepared for along way.

It was great to meet people through these events, and speak to others also in the midst of building their own home.
